Our desire is for Church of the Cross to be an easy place to meet others and to get involved. If you are new to our church, a great place to start is to visit one of the newcomers’ dinners we hold regularly. If you would like to be invited to our next newcomers’ dinner, please contact our office manager Annie Birtcil. Another good place to learn more about our church is through the Discovering the Cross class. This is typically offered twice a year in the fall and the spring.
Listed below are descriptions of different ministry teams at Church of the Cross. We encourage you to contact any of the leaders of these teams for more information or to find out how you can participate.
We pray that children at every stage of their spiritual journey will know the love of the Father, grow in their love for Jesus, and show the love of Jesus in the power of the Spirit. Faith formation happens best through a partnership between church and home. We seek to encourage parents in their own lives of faith and equip them for the spiritual role they play in their children’s, but we also believe that the whole family of God—other adults, parents, youth, and children—has a part to play in a child’s growth in faith. Church of the Cross offers various opportunities for adult learning and connection, from small groups to Bible studies, to classes, to men’s and women’s retreats. These ministries focus on encouraging discipleship through prayer, studying Scripture, and spending time with others in our community. For more information, click here.
The word “liturgy” means “of the people,” which describes well what we experience in our worship services. All the congregation is encouraged to actively participate in the worship—through singing, prayer, learning, and receiving Communion. There are also many opportunities to worship through serving at our gatherings—by helping on our music team, serving Communion, leading prayers and Scripture readings, greeting, or serving in our nursery.
The ministry of prayer is a priority in the life of our congregation. There are many and varied opportunities to participate in prayer. It is a ministry of loving, listening, and interceding in the name of Jesus. Our desire is to lift, to strengthen, and to encourage those who come to God. Prayer is a place where we all grow in faith as we see God’s work in answer to our praise and petition. For more information, click here.
Youth of the Cross is our ministry for seventh through twelfth graders. Our primary focus is discipleship, which we accomplish through Bible study, prayer, service, and worship. All of this happens in the context of close, meaningful relationships with other teens and our adult staff and volunteers. And of course, nothing happens without a good deal of fun. The Global Acts Team at Church of the Cross is committed to supporting those who are called to devote their lives to making known the Good News of God in Jesus Christ, making disciples of all nations, serving those in need, and promoting justice. We partner with missionaries and ministries with close ties to our church body to provide opportunity for members of Church of the Cross to be more deeply involved in and supportive of their work. Our partnership includes financial support, regular prayer and encouragement, and assisting with other ministry needs. We also offer opportunities for the members of our church to be involved in outreach projects—locally, nationally, and internationally. To see some of the ministries we support, click here.
