Financial Peace University (Thursday Evenings, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Sept. 9th – Dec. 9th) FPU is a 13-week biblical based, video-driven study that teaches families and individuals how to beat debt, build wealth and give like never before. The Bible is filled with practical and relevant wisdom on saving, spending, debt and even investing. Whether you are well-off or struggling, FPU will unpack how these timeless truths apply to your life today. The course and materials cost $93 per couple/family or $46.50 for individuals. 'Pamoja' Place Fellowship (‘Pamoja’ is Swahili for togetherness) The next service of this African worship gathering will take place on Saturday, September 11th at 5:00 p.m. Sammy & Mwende Kieti are pleased to invite you to this monthly worship service in the Great Hall of Church of the Cross. Happy Birthday COTC! As a worshipping body we are turning 6 years old on Sunday, September12th and will be celebrating after the 10 a.m. service with cake.
Weekly Youth Gathering All youth are invited to join us on Sunday nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at our Hopkins location. Beginning on September 12th, this gathering will include a series of teachings on doctrine, worldviews, and Christian living. It will also include times for discussion and other activities. For those youth who are wishing to be confirmed next fall, there will be specific requirements and expectations, but all jr. high and high school students are encouraged to attend. An Oasis of Mid-Week Prayer Gather with others to pray the evening liturgy beginning Wednesday, September 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the Hopkins sanctuary. This begins a weekly time of worship, prayer and quiet reflection together at 6:30 on Wednesday nights.
Women’s Bible Study All women are cordially invited to our Fall Wednesday night Bible study which begins Wednesday, September 15th from 7-9 p.m. at the church. In this 10 week study we will be studying “Esther: It's Tough Being a Woman” by Beth Moore which provides a personal study experience five days a week plus viewer guides for the group video sessions of this in-depth women's Bible study of Esther - a profile in courage. If you've ever felt inadequate, threatened, or pushed into situations that seemed overpowering, this is the Bible study for you. Just as it was tough being a woman in Esther's day, it's tough today. This portion of God's Word contains treasures to aid us in our hurried, harried, and pressured lives. You can purchase a book from Annie in the church office for $18.00 or get one the first night. No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, please join us for this rich time of sharing and praying together. Another Pot Luck? Yes, indeed! Come for worship at 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 19th and stay to taste someone else’s good food as well as learn about our Ministry Teams—at the end of the meal we will be hearing brief updates from our ministry team leaders. Benefit Concert for Homelessness Come to Church of the Cross on Friday, September, 24th at 7:30 p.m. and hear COTC musicians Tyler Blanski, Katy Wehr and Paul Calvin. Support a good cause at the same time! Admission is $10 and all proceeds benefit Think Out Loud, an organization finding solutions for homelessness in the Twin Cities…and get a free CD. 'Umoja' Concert! ('Umoja' is Swahili for unity, oneness and connectedness) Come experience joy, excitement, fun and the energy of the Holy Spirit as we dance and sing praises to our God! Yes, Umoja Concert is back with a 'bang'! Our theme is, "Behold I Am (God) doing a new thing"! Evangelist/ Singer, Elizabeth Nyambura from Nairobi, Kenya will be our guest singer, among other local Artists. The Concert will be on Saturday, October 2nd at 6 p.m. (American time), at the Church of the Cross sanctuary in Hopkins. We are looking for people to help: ...Pass out concert flyers on Saturday, September 4th (2 p.m.) during a Labor Day weekend outdoor African event at Driftwood Park (2705 5th St NW, New Brighton, MN). We will have a booth amongst other vendors and will be serving lemonade....A piano player (or two) for the Concert... one that can play by ear...simple African songs and choruses. ...Please sign up at the Welcome Table if you are able to help. East Side Moms' Play Group Bring the kids, stay for lunch, and get to know COTC moms. We hope to meet every other Friday from 9:30-12:30 at Sarah Lundgren's house (1433 Glenhill Road, Arden Hills)...next meeting on Friday, September 10th. Prayer for Kids of the Cross Come pray with others for the children and youth of our church each Sunday prior to the worship service. We will meet downstairs in the Great Hall at 9:40 a.m. Child care will be available in the toddler nursery.

SMALL GROUPS AT CHURCH OF THE CROSS… Small groups play an important role at Church of the Cross. Groups meet at various locations around the Twin Cities including Edina, Hopkins, Minneapolis (Nokomis and Powderhorn), St. Louis Park, St. Paul (Frogtown and Midway), Falcon Heights, and Lakeville. They are a fruitful context for discipleship and though each group has its own unique composition and location, all exercise the practices of prayer, the reading of scripture, and casual fellowship.
