Serving at Church of the Cross

We are a liturgical church, and liturgy literally means “work of the people."

We’re invited to participate in the liturgy as we come together on Sundays and beyond. Did you know it takes 35-40 volunteers every Sunday to run two services?

And you can have a role in this good work!

When you offer your time in one of these areas, you can bless the Lord and our church family with your service.

Serving During a Sunday Service

You'll be the first face people see by greeting and directing attendees during services for communion, offering, and as needed.

Leading our service processional, by carrying the cross, is a perfect way for our younger members to serve on Sunday morning.
- All children ages 5-13 years old are welcome to serve in this way.

You can take part in reading the word of God during our services.
- All are welcome to serve here, including children and youth.
- You will serve about 1x service per month.

You can serve the sacrament to those in the congregation during services.

You can help with preparing the elements before or between services, and respectfully disposing of the elements and cleaning up after the service.

You can lead this section of service by offering up the prayers of our community.

Be a welcoming presence in the service, telling folks about upcoming events. Also, be available for ten minutes or so after the service to answer questions from visitors.

Serving on a Ministry Team

Children’s Ministry*

You can become part of discipling our younger members in the nursery or Sunday school. Additionally, anyone can join our Next Generation prayer team and commit to praying at least 1x month by name for each assigned child.

Attendees of 6+ months can serve here.
You would serve in a classroom about 1x service per month.

Youth Ministry*

This is a really fun opportunity to serve the next generation (grades 7-12) by hanging out, participating in lessons, laughing a lot, getting to know some awesome teens, and even joining us on retreats, trips, and game days.

Attendees of 6+ months can serve here.
You would serve about 2x Sunday nights per month.

Prayer Team

You can grow in your own faith and serve those in our community as we pray together, making our needs and requests known to our Heavenly Father. Ministers serve in pairs on Sunday mornings, during communion, and at our quarterly Time Set Apart services.

Tech Team

If you are comfortable with technology and have a can-do spirit, the Tech Team may be a great fit. We have roles in both audio and video.

You would serve about 1x service per month.

Worship Team

If you're a vocalist or instrumentalist, this may be a great fit for you. Contact Andene to schedule a potential audition. Having experience with harmony and improvisation is important.

Instrumental and Choral Music

If you love to sing or play music, we have occasional choirs or chamber groups and will need voices, instruments, and accompanists. Please let us know if you have an interest so we can include you in music-related communication.
