Artist Statement

Every canvas starts as a blank, I can relate to that fact. Before I begin every canvas, I pause and reflect how I’ve been brought by the grace of God to this point. For without His direction and grace, I too would be a blank.

“In Thy Light” is from Psalm 36:9. This is my confession and belief. This is not a religion for me. This is life to me.

Artist Bio

Rick has been painting professionally now for thirty-seven years. After having received an art educator degree from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, Rick moved to Minnesota upon the recommendation of the President of a Bible Ministry to further his education by studying the techniques of Classical painters of the past in a small setting. He attended the Atelier LeSueur for four years, then was privileged to have an opportunity to study another year under more intimate apprenticeship along with Richard Lack, the acknowledged founder and master in the Classical Realism school.

Now, for the past thirteen years, Rick has maintained a studio in beautiful historic downtown Chaska where he welcomes all who venture into see the latest work on the easel. He spends much time doing pleinair painting, floral compositions, and portrait work. He has also faithfully taught oil and watercolor classes in the metro area. His work has been well received in numerous shows both solo and group winning multiple awards nationally.
